Serrano Middle School, North Verdemont Elementary School, San Gorgonio High School (San G), and San Bernardino High School (SBHS) students are paying tribute to the victims and survivors of the September 11 terrorist attacks during special events this week.

The Serrano band is holding a free patriotic concert Wednesday, September 7 at 6 p.m. at the school, 3131 Piedmont Drive in Highland. Musical selections will include “The Star Spangled Banner” and “America, the Beautiful.”

For the past nine years, North Verdemont students and staff have planted rose bushes in tribute to the victims of September 11, 2001. Fire fighters from Fire Station #232 and members of the U.S. Forest Service and local law enforcement have been invited to participate.

The public is invited to attend the memorial service, which begins at 9 a.m. North Verdemont is located at 3555 W. Meyers Road in San Bernardino. San G students are holding a doordecorating contest.

School staff will judge participating classes between 8:30 and 9 a.m. on Friday, September 9. During a rally on Friday, September 9 at San Bernardino High School, students will honor Cora Hidalgo Holland, an SBHS alumna and passenger on American Airlines Flight 11, which crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center.
